Letter from the Panhellenic President
Welcome! Let me be the first to say how happy and excited we are that you are considering going through sorority recruitment. Joining a sorority can be a big decision, and it can be a substantial time commitment. However, that decision and time commitment can create such a significant impact on your life and become extremely rewarding and empowering. Whether you are coming into this process with no knowledge or you have memorized every sorority’s philanthropy and symbol, I encourage you all to keep an open mind and an open heart. There are endless opportunities within sorority life, and I believe you can fully embrace those opportunities by being open.
We pride ourselves in our Fraternity and Sorority Life here at USD. We are unique from other schools, as the letters we wear do not solely define us. If you decide to join a sorority, the women of your sorority will help shape you, but your sorority won’t define you. Those in fraternities and sororities are defined as leaders, Changemakers, scholars, athletes, and brothers and sisters.
Joining Fraternity and Sorority Life is a great opportunity to become involved at USD. When you join a sorority, you don’t join the chapter – you join the people. The group of women you become a part of will support, empower, challenge, and love you. They will help you to find yourself and then help you find the best version of yourself. That is what sisterhood is all about here at USD. Fraternity and Sorority Life will shape you into the leader that you want to be and push you to see beyond yourself: you will see past yourself, past your chapter, and past USD. You will be able to look into the greater community and be able to produce change. Everyday, USD and the members of Fraternity and Sorority Life strive to for that change. We go out and serve the community by donating our time and money through a variety of opportunities and projects, and by collaborating with student orgs to create a more inclusive environment. Through service and collaborations, we strive for academic excellence, the strengthening of sisterhood, and fostering an inclusive community within sorority life.
