Copenhagen
TEMPLE BAND
VISIT
EMPIRE
STATE
DIVISION
By Jaye Jones, Schenectady Citadel, EMP
OCTOBER 13-19, 2019 — On Sunday, October
13th, the Copenhagen Temple Band found
themselves on the platform of Schenectady
Citadel for Holiness Meeting to begin their
weeklong tour of beautiful upstate New York.
The band, under the direction of B/M Jens
Hansen, led the Spirit filled meeting with the
morning message shared by Major Hanne
Wahl. From Schenectady the band found
themselves traveling across the state Monday
morning to Niagara Falls, NY. The band had the
opportunity for sightseeing in the afternoon
and presented a well - supported concert in
the evening at the local corps. Other locations
the band visited throughout the week were,
the local mall and Adult Rehabilitation Center
in Syracuse, Rochester Liberty Pole Way Corps,
Ithaca Corps, Canandaigua Corps and our
monthly Divisional Music and Arts rehearsal at
Long Point Camp. The band split up between
our DYMA (Divisional Youth Music & Arts) Band
and Empire Brass for a wonderful time of Army
fellowship, encouragement and music. The
day culminated with an exciting Divisional
Music and Arts Celebration with over 350
people attending! The Temple Band was in
great form and thrilled the young people and
visitors with two items from their soloists. The
band’s cornet soloist, Mark Hansen, played
“Silver Threads” (S.H. Boddington) and bass
trombonist Mikael Jakshoj, shared the swing
solo “Joshua” (M. Thomas). Empire Chorus,
Empire Timbrels, DYMA Chorus and the Utica
Citadel Dancers all took part in the rest of the
celebration.
The division is thankful to the band for their
visit and encouragement to the musicians and
friends of the great Empire State Division! ■
