CAMDEN KROC ARTS EXTRAVAGANZA By Thomas Scheibner, Assistant Territorial Music Secretary, THQ The Camden, NJ Kroc Center sponsored an “Arts Extravaganza Day” at its facility on Saturday, February 28, 2019 between 10:30 AM and 4:30 PM. This event featured both visual and performing art workshops and demonstrations and was organized by Tiffany Phillips Maxwell, Arts Supervisor at the Camden Kroc Center. Kroc Center Directors Majors Terry and Susan Wood are the overall supervisors for all events and activities held at Camden Kroc. A wide variety of both visual and performing arts workshops were held. In the morning, featured activities pertaining to the music program included participation in playing Bucket Drums and a Music Exploration program which allowed young people (between the ages of 7 – 16) to try out their skill in playing a brass instrument. Other Arts Activities included a Ballet/Jazz Dance class and a class on Hip Hop Choreography. In the afternoon, events held included a Live Competition Dance Team performance, an art class allowing students to draw their own Superhero and a class to create a Tie Dye T-shirt. This beautiful facility had its “normal” programs running during the day (including swimming activities) besides this special event. There was some concern because the pre-registration total for the event did not meet expectations, but in the end some 40 – 50 young people attended the Arts Extravaganza event. It is hoped that the success of this day will benefit the corps programs held at the Kroc Center in addition to benefitting the successful community programs that are held at this facility. ■ PHILLY KROC JAZZ ORCHESTRA AT THE CAMDEN KROC CENTER MAY 19 • 3:00 PM FREE ADMISSION
