SUMMER BRASS
2019 REPORT
JUNE 21 - AUGUST 3
WEEK 1 - The first week of Summer
Brass’ eighth year began with a few
days of rehearsal and orientation led by
Steve Bussey and Sharon Bussey, Major
Brett DeMichael, B/M Derek Lance
and S/L Tom Scheibner at territorial
headquarters. The first Sunday
morning worship for the group was
held at the Spring Valley Corps. Other
activities during the first week included
some proof reading for the American
Band Journal publication, a trip to
Dillon Music for some instrument
repairs / tryouts, and a concert at the
Manhattan ARC. Later in the week, the
group headed to Seaford, DE to help
with the local ministry by participating
in an ‘open air’ at the Ross Mansion, and
performing concerts at the Genesis
Home and Manor House retirement
facilities. The week was capped-off
with a concert at the Trenton ARC.
WEEK 2 - Summer Brass led Sunday
morning worship at the Willimantic, CT
Corps before heading to Camp Connri
to be on Staff for the week at Southern
New England Divisional Music & Arts
Camp. The group had a fantastic time
with DMD Robert Venables and team.
WEEK 3 - Week 3 saw the group split
in two… after traveling to Camp
Swoneky and playing a concert for the
campers, six Summer Brass members
headed to Puerto Rico for PRVI Music
& Arts Conservatory. This was the first
year that Summer Brass has been to
Puerto Rico, and it was a wonderful
experience. The rest of Summer Brass
stayed at Camp Swoneky for Music &
Arts Camp along with Assistant TMS
Tom Scheibner, who was the special
guest.
WEEK 4 - When Summer Brass group 1
finished at Camp Swoneky, they were
off to Western Penn Division – leading
Sunday morning worship at the Beaver
Falls Corps.
The whole of Summer Brass was
reunited at Camp Allegheny for
Western Penn Music & Arts Camp. The
special guest for the week was BM
Stephen Yalden, from the California
South Division.
WEEK 5 - To end our time in the WPA
Division, Summer Brass headed to the
Aliquippa Corps where we shared in a
blessed time of worship and fellowship.
This week featured ministry
opportunities at the Poughkeepsie,
Hempstead, and Paterson Adult
Rehabilitation centers as well as a
concert at the Greater New York Music
Conservatory before heading off to Old
Orchard Beach for the Camp Meetings
and Pier Ministry.
each day, as well as performed two

Mylechreest) 2. Firework (arr. Gates) 3.
Disney Spectacular (arr. Richards)
SET 2 – 1. 007 Light (arr. Frei) 2. The
Avengers 3. Star Wars
For the camp meetings, each
member was a part of Crossfire Brass,
which rehearsed each morning,
culminating with a fireworks concert
on Thursday night. We also assisted
in the Tuesday night kids program at
the pavilion. It was an amazing time of
ministry in OOB.
On the last day, before our final OOB
engagement, we headed to Gilford, NH
to support the Salvation Army’s work
at Soulfest held at Gunstock Mountain
Resort. We were able to perform on
the main stage as well as on top of
the mountain and at the entrance for
the opening of the festival. This was
the second year participating at this
event, and it was another awesome
experience! ■
WEEK 6 - For the final week, Summer
Brass was once again privileged to
take part in the OOB Pier Ministry and
camp meetings. For the Pier Ministry,
we helped with setup and tear down
