SUMMER BRASS 2019 REPORT JUNE 21 - AUGUST 3 WEEK 1 - The first week of Summer Brass’ eighth year began with a few days of rehearsal and orientation led by Steve Bussey and Sharon Bussey, Major Brett DeMichael, B/M Derek Lance and S/L Tom Scheibner at territorial headquarters. The first Sunday morning worship for the group was held at the Spring Valley Corps. Other activities during the first week included some proof reading for the American Band Journal publication, a trip to Dillon Music for some instrument repairs / tryouts, and a concert at the Manhattan ARC. Later in the week, the group headed to Seaford, DE to help with the local ministry by participating in an ‘open air’ at the Ross Mansion, and performing concerts at the Genesis Home and Manor House retirement facilities. The week was capped-off with a concert at the Trenton ARC. WEEK 2 - Summer Brass led Sunday morning worship at the Willimantic, CT Corps before heading to Camp Connri to be on Staff for the week at Southern New England Divisional Music & Arts Camp. The group had a fantastic time with DMD Robert Venables and team. WEEK 3 - Week 3 saw the group split in two… after traveling to Camp Swoneky and playing a concert for the campers, six Summer Brass members headed to Puerto Rico for PRVI Music & Arts Conservatory. This was the first year that Summer Brass has been to Puerto Rico, and it was a wonderful experience. The rest of Summer Brass stayed at Camp Swoneky for Music & Arts Camp along with Assistant TMS Tom Scheibner, who was the special guest. WEEK 4 - When Summer Brass group 1 finished at Camp Swoneky, they were off to Western Penn Division – leading Sunday morning worship at the Beaver Falls Corps. The whole of Summer Brass was reunited at Camp Allegheny for Western Penn Music & Arts Camp. The special guest for the week was BM Stephen Yalden, from the California South Division. WEEK 5 - To end our time in the WPA Division, Summer Brass headed to the Aliquippa Corps where we shared in a blessed time of worship and fellowship. This week featured ministry opportunities at the Poughkeepsie, Hempstead, and Paterson Adult Rehabilitation centers as well as a concert at the Greater New York Music Conservatory before heading off to Old Orchard Beach for the Camp Meetings and Pier Ministry. each day, as well as performed two alternating sets which included: SET 1 - 1. Awesome God (arr. Mylechreest) 2. Firework (arr. Gates) 3. Disney Spectacular (arr. Richards) SET 2 – 1. 007 Light (arr. Frei) 2. The Avengers 3. Star Wars For the camp meetings, each member was a part of Crossfire Brass, which rehearsed each morning, culminating with a fireworks concert on Thursday night. We also assisted in the Tuesday night kids program at the pavilion. It was an amazing time of ministry in OOB. On the last day, before our final OOB engagement, we headed to Gilford, NH to support the Salvation Army’s work at Soulfest held at Gunstock Mountain Resort. We were able to perform on the main stage as well as on top of the mountain and at the entrance for the opening of the festival. This was the second year participating at this event, and it was another awesome experience! ■ WEEK 6 - For the final week, Summer Brass was once again privileged to take part in the OOB Pier Ministry and camp meetings.
