US Service Life July August 2014 | Page 5

Welcome to U.S. Service Life in the Pikes Peak Region. Since moving to Colorado Springs, I’ve come to call this beautiful Pikes Peak Region the country’s hidden gem. As a June 2014 graduate of the Leadership Pikes Peak (LPP) Signature Program, that concept was proved to me in a new way. Every year, LPP’s program introduces a diverse group of people to an in-depth study of the issues and opportunities facing the Pikes Peak region. The community curriculum includes sessions covering topics like education, human services, government (state and local), criminal justice, local history, economic development, environment, and so much more. Every session was interesting, however, I admit that the Human Services, Criminal Justice and Public Service days were my favorite and deeply moved me. I learned a great deal about the region, made some great relationships and ignited some volunteer passions. LPP has many programs ranging from a full day and a half immersion of experiencing the Springs from teens to 55 and over. LPP might be a great way to ignite your passion for the region or you might discover other passions with our article, Looking for Passion & Purpose? Ignite Your Passion – 5 Days, 5 Ways, an inaugural conference, which takes place entirely online from July 24-28th. The conference will bring together a global audience looking for ways to ignite their passions. At the five-day online conference, the audience will learn how to take personal, creative and professional endeavors to the next level while hearing 20 experts share life experiences and what they have learned throughout their personal and professional careers. If you’re planning on attending virtually, look for our special military discount code for registration that’s been extended to all of US Service Life readers!
