Bismarck’s Music Scene is jumpin!
Many more venues are now available and we all know summertime is upon us. From the North Dakota State
Fair to Urban Harvest and evening fun on outdoor patios – we can finally enjoy outdoor fun with our families.
Going out to Captain Freddie’s was always fun, now the beautiful bar with a spectacular patio has changed
hands and is now called Rock Point. It is definitely helping out our music scene by putting on bad ass rock
concerts right on the river. I was able to speak with Chris Volk of Rock Point and asked him what he thought
the most difficult struggle was with running a Rock Club.
“Probably the hardest thing right now is staying on top of booking the national acts and not missing any good
bands that are routing through the area. However, the nice thing is there’s about 5 major agencies that we
have developed great relationships with and the band’s report back to them about how much they enjoyed
the hospitality and playing at the venue,” Volk said. “Now the agents are reaching out to us weekly when
trying to route bands through the area knowing they can trust us now as a legit venue in the US. We do hear
sometimes that people think we are only a venue and open when we have concerts, which isn’t the case. We
are a fully operational Bar & Grill on the river with a huge patio open seven days a week. With awesome
food and karaoke and great drink specials with just a really great atmosphere all around.”
That brings us to late night fun jamming on the open patios. From Lucky Ducks to rolling on the river,
Bismarck/Mandan has it all. I can see it now. Imagine a large group of people on the riverboat, and then they
randomly all break out singing Don’t Stop Believing with some funky dance moves. Then on the last part of
the song they all jump off the boat into the water yelling in sync “DON’T STOP!” –––– splash! Aaand Scene!
Late evening (if not windy) candle light dinner on the patio of one of our fantastic downtown restaurants is a
must for everyone during our warm season. Just as you finish dinner a small blues band rips into an arousing
version of Pride and Joy. As you end the night with a flirty glass of pinot, and a splash of blush.
Don’t forget about The N.D. State Fair later on this month. They have some great acts lined up this year.
From Kenny Chesney to Kiss, Fall Out Boy and so much more.
This fun, festive retelling of The Canterbury Tales is now open at Dakota Stage! Get your tickets today! Don’t
miss this adorable adaptation, presented for all ages going on until July 10th.
German Days start up on July 14th at The Bismarck Depot. It’s a great event and fun for all ages. I enjoy the
Cheese Buttons the best. There’s tons of tasty German Food and it’s so good!
I hope everyone had a very safe and happy 4th of July!
