‘‘Erie’, ‘Industrial’ , ‘Exotic’ a few
words that have been used to
describe the Rainham Marshes/
Located in the far east of London.
Engulfed in a landscape which
plays home to a wealth of
contrasting elements. Twitcher’s
Turret sits on the edge of the
River Thames, adjacent to a
Landfill site - in it’s latter stages
of it’s life and quietly opposite
an industrial park. Distinctively,
Rainham marches is also metres
from Royal Society Protection
of Birds nature reserve with
thousands of birds visiting
throughout all seasons.
The site is also a milestone
in various hiking and cycle trails
around the area. A ‘Twitcher’ is
also known as a birdwatcher,
throughout the site, hundreds of
birdwatchers travel there each
year to catch glimpses of rare
birds. With bird watching now
becoming a popular subculture,
more and more people are
getting involved. The building,
dubbed ‘Twitcher’s Turret’
allows birdwatchers to come
together and enjoy breaks in the
exotic landscape. Experiencing
Rainham’s nature to the
maximum.
