THE ARTISAN SPHERE

Scott Broadley - Broadleys Fine Jewellery

Creativity surrounded Scott from an early age . His father , like him , a jeweller , and his mother also in the same industry . In his early years , Scott was a semi professional soccer player , unfortunately a severe injury cut short his promising career in sports .
At the age of 19 , Scott commenced his apprenticeship in his father ’ s atelier and quicky realised his passion for the craft . With a career in sport now off the cards , his focus was clear . Scott pivoted one passion to another passion and became immersed in learning his new craft . His approach was , from the beginning , focussed on design and creating bespoke , custom pieces for his clients . Harbouring the Art Deco values he had embraced from his father , and adding his own design flair of Avant Garde , Scott found his style which is evident through each one of his pieces .
When asked about his favorite stone to work with , Scott replied : “ I don ’ t really have a favourite stone really as such . Diamonds are fantastic as they are so versatile with any style of jewellery . Sapphires are great also . But I do like stones that are a little more unique , like natural spinel , they have a lot of life to them and come in variety of colours which then opens up to so many design options .”
For Scott , there is nothing more satisfying as the customised approach he takes of creating bespoke , handcrafted pieces . Sketching designs in front of the client , and having their direct feedback is an integral part of the conversation surrounding the piece he is creating . The form and structure of the piece is one of Scott ’ s favourite aspects to explore , having an almost “ architectural ” approach to jewellery .
In his own words , his most memorable moment being a jeweller : “ After spending 17 years making rings for everyone else , my most memorable moment was to design and make the engagement ring for my now wife and see the emotions on her face as I surprised her with the finished piece . The art I knew most and the person I knew and loved the most combined surely makes to be one of the most memorable moments of my life .”
