“ Growing up on a station in the West Pilbara , I fell in love with the natural beauty of the land with its incredible shapes and forms . I pursued my horticultural training with the Kings Park Board off the back of that love , and I worked on the weekends , forming TDL in 1982 . I ’ ve always tried to diversify our offering as much as possible , but residential projects have a special place in my heart and suit my approach very well . I think I ’ ve been successful in building our high-end residential business because I promote an empathetic approach to design . Our process in producing residential landscapes requires us to really get to know our clients ’ needs and wishes . Combining that with our specialist knowledge , we can make recommendations that can drastically improve the way outdoor spaces work for people , which is very rewarding . It ’ s a privilege to be able to get a glimpse into people ’ s lives and influence how they use their outdoor spaces . Engagement with the natural world is a human need . If we do our jobs well , I like to think we ’ re making a positive impact on the lifestyles and quality of life of our clients . I ’ d love to think that people are able to enjoy their outdoor spaces and use them a lot in part because our design efforts invite them into the outdoors ”.
