Urban Sprawl 1 | Page 7

Wow, first time at first Friday! I have heard a lot of chatter from E-tech, the engineering club that I am in, and others on how amazing it is there. I've asked them to describe it but when they do I thought that they overrated it. After I said, “why not” I decided to go just to check it out and if I did not like it or thought it was boring I would have just taken the bus to get home. Now it is about five, I saw that there were maybe 100 to 200 people there at any given time. I thought to myself, “Yeah it was cool and all but I did not think that it was all that.” Little did I know that this was only the beginning.

It is around five in the afternoon, and I am thinking, “I am tired” so I suggested we go to Starbucks to rest a bit because our extremely heavy backpacks were killing us. We waited for about two hours or so, just to get rested up for another adventure. As soon as we got back, I saw that the number of people there has doubled or even tripled, and the number displayed also increased. I thought that now maybe this can be fun. I thought, “

Maybe I could try something new to eat.” Or just have a new experience, but sadly I did not because the chili cheese dogs did not look very good. As we are walking through Garfield and Roosevelt I saw that the section that I have caught a glimpse at before was only the tip of the iceberg.

As soon as we passed, I was astonished to see how many people in this area love to put up their own art. And once we got deeper into the heart of first Friday I saw the performers using cellos, violins, guitars, drums and just plain old dancing (hip hop of course). I also saw that there were a lot more paintings; in the Roosevelt and Garfield area they were selling mostly crafts and just a few paintings. But the heart of First Friday had crafts like homemade beanies, gloves made out of socks and some other weird stuff, and paintings to spare. I thought, “I should buy the Sherlock and Doctor Who painting!”
