Your entrepreneurial journey began in middle school when you sold noodles and candies from your locker . How did those prior experiences shape your business mindset today ? Yes , you know , it ’ s so funny because I learned a lot through that experience . It was not easy . Also , people still wanted to negotiate even though I was selling it for 50 cents . I think the biggest lesson that I learned through that experience was the importance of following up . I noticed that once people bought the cup of noodles ; they were wondering how they could warm it up . I created a partnership with one of my teachers , and I charged a little bit more . I was able to build relationships . So , it taught me that you really couldn ’ t go far without other people .
After excelling in banking and health and health IT , what inspired you to make the shift to entrepreneurship , particularly in the event venue industry ?
I was working for PNC Bank in Baltimore . What PNC did , which I thought was interesting , was they had sold something called a virtual wallet , which was two checking accounts and a savings account . Now , why that ’ s significant is because it was so successful . You would get your deposit in one account , and then you could spend it from a different account . Let ’ s say you swipe your card at the gas station , and someone steals your information . That is not the account where most of your money is held . That was powerful , and people loved it . So , I did the same thing at the other banks . I was selling that story , and people could identify with that . That really showed me a lot about sales in general . And so how I got into the event industry , I ’ m going to back up a little bit and tell you a little bit about my women empowerment community . Social Tea started out of a need for a community for women . Since 2019 till today , we ’ ve curated over 500 events
