URBAN LIFE 'N STYLE NOVEMBER 2016 | TAKE ME BACK | Page 62
Canggu is a quiet surf and sunset beach surrounded by rice
paddies dotted by chic patisseries or bistros as neighbours
interspersed with traditional Balinese homes. The mayhem
and frenetic pace of Seminyak is notably absent & everybody
seems to be on a much slower pace.
We stayed just a short walk away from Echo Beach, world
famous for its magnificent waves and a must on every
surfers bucket list. Echo Beach seems to have an energy all

just mere holiday makers.
We had packed just enough to get us through the first day as
we knew, or thought we knew that no sooner had we hit the
beaches and the vendors would come in their droves and of

local flavoured bars are plenty. There is no Hard Rock Cafe
or Hooters just quaint, funky beach bars that look as though
they were thrown together with driftwood. But the vibe and
energy is awesome.
Canggu is just a short drive from the Temple of Tanah Lot
and whether you’ve seen it before it is worthwhile visiting
again. It is quite simply beautiful. The best time to visit would
be sunrise or sunset but I wanted to see it in the bright light of
day even though we would miss seeing the Sacred Snake or
get a blessing from the priest.
This is about the only place in the area with a huge tourist
market to buy anything from beads to sarongs and anything
in between. The beauty of Tanah Lot is not just the temple in
the middle of the ocean but the gardens and two other
temples i
