U.G. Digital Mag: It’s hard to believe it’s been two years since we last talked, and I know so much has happened in that time. Let’s take it back a bit. I would love for you to let everyone know how you really got into all of this media work. You’ve put yourself out on a major platform, and people are recognizing and seeing you for the genius you are. When did you know this was your path?

Miss Bling: I would say that as young as I can remember, I was into entertainment. I have pictures at two years old in front of a piano. My brother was a musician in a band, and he played every instrument. He performed with Rick James, played bass for Faith Evans, and Darius Brooks.

U.G. Digital Mag: Ooh wee. I still fan out over Faith Evans … lol.

Miss Bling: My brother actually gave me my middle name. He named me Patrice after Patrice Rushen. I was destined to do this from birth. He said he looked at me, and knew I would become an entertainer. “Forget Me Nots” by patrice Rushen is like my theme song. I plan to put that on a t-shirt. I have people who contact me, and tag me with blingy stuff, blingy staircases, and they say made them think of me.

U.G. Digital Mag: I think it’s cool. Have you thought of connecting with Patrice Rushen? You should.

Miss Bling: She’s definitely on my list.

U.G. Digital Mag: That would be good for you.

I’d probably cry, thinking about my brother the whole time. He loved her, and always played the guitar. He passed away in 2006. So, he was one of the main reasons I actually pursued my journey in media. Everything about Shavon was about media. At 21, I felt like nothing I was doing was purposeful. I knew how to do so many things; hair, nails, and decorating in high school. It wasn’t until my best friend passed in 2005 that I began to explore my passion of media.
