A
uthenticity is such a rarity in the world of entertainment. So many are portraying
themselves to be something they’re truly not in hopes of attaining some level of
success. In one respect, we denounce those who we deem as not being “real”, yet, when they are, they’re heavily criticized for being themselves. That idea, at least for a brief moment, was the driver behind Kore Stacks’ brand. We’ve all seen just how much the gay community has been ostracized for their own degree of authenticity. We’ve heard over the years how the rap community has been a major force behind the existing criticism. For so long, there were very few who led careers in hip-hop and were openly gay. Many times we’ve heard open threats of outing “secretly gay” rappers who were hiding the truth. I think we all had to know that with the way society has changed, and luckily grown, someone would finally break through the madness to lead a successful career in hip-hop, despite their sexuality, and that person leading the crusade, so to speak, is none other than Kore Stacks.
While it took him some time to get to that point of contentment in self that he was able to be open and honest with the world, he’s definitely at his happiest with his newfound transparency. Honestly, it’s refreshing because again, so many are scared of what someone else thinks and how they’ll be perceived. Obviously, the world has become much more accepting to people and their sexual preference, but it’s good to see it finally extending to hip-hop.
Kore Stacks and I had the best conversation about his career and the path that he’s traveled thus far, and the way his career is truly budding. In just three short years, he’s reached amazing heights with his musical releases, and has gone as far as recently being featured on the hit television show “Star”. The sky is truly the limit for Stacks, and that becomes more evident when he expands upon the many things he’s got in the works.
All that being said, we’re thrilled to present our exclusive with Kore Stacks!
U.G. Digital Mag: It’s pretty huge to connect with you bro! We were set to connect about a year ago, but it’s good that some time went by because a lot had transpired since then. There’s a lot you’re doing for hip-hop, and music in general. Kudos to you for all you have going on, and for your accomplishments. Start off by talking about how it feels to be in the position you’re in right now?
Kore Stacks: Man, first of all, I appreciate your comments. I’m not going to lie to you though; it’s hard work. It’s hard for me because I feel like I want more. I’m not big-headed. I don’t necessarily feel like I made it, or that I’m bigger than anybody. I still feel like I have work to do. It feels good though to get the platform where people are starting to pay attention, though.
U.G. Digital Mag: One of the things I’ve really admired about you, as I’ve sat on the sidelines and watched, not only the overall reaction of people, but the way you have reacted in terms of putting your entire life on the forefront. I’ll be honest too.
Kore Stacks: You can say it [laughing].
