U.G. Digital Mag: That’s the key. There’s a layer of authenticity in your music, and that’s what makes you successful. People can relate to you, and they're getting good music. Obviously, I can see it played anywhere. I’m excited about how things are packaged for you.
Drea Love: Thank you. I try to create good music, and portray myself in a positive light. I don’t like beef, and I just want to have fun.
U.G. Digital Mag: So what comes next. Obviously, you have a string of hits out there, so what is next?
Drea Love: An album is coming. I’m working with new producers right now, and I’m also getting into acting. I also do things on the side. Every year on New Years Day, we go out and feed the hungry.
U.G. Digital Mag: I actually saw that on YouTube. That’s so amazing.
Drea Love: We felt like on New Years, we would go out and bless other people. We go downtown to the shelter, and for the past year, we’ve only fed a few hundred. They were so grateful and humble. It’s something we felt like in our hearts we should do. In college, I worked with youth in the boys and girls clubs. I may not have much, but I give what I can. Going back to the music, I have a single called “Summer Fun” featuring Beenie Man. I am working on the album, and hopefully we get another video out. I have a lot coming up that I’ll keep you posted on.
U.G. Digital Mag: I definitely want to remain updated. I have an immense amount of respect for you. It’s not easy putting yourself out there, and it can get hard. What keeps you motivated?
Drea Love: Actually, my family, and God. I pray all the time for patience and guidance. It’s hard trying to do what you love. God and my family keeps me going. I’m just trying to see the light. It’ll come when it comes. It’ll happen when it’s supposed to happen.
U.G. Digital Mag: Are there any final words of encouragement? What do you say to the next independent artist?
Drea Love: Find the right people to back you. Don’t have people in it just for the money and they’re not supporting you. I just reconnected with Tia, and we agreed to work together. I’m grateful for her grind. Don’t let anybody hold you back and influence you to do what you don’t want. Prayer helps a lot. That’s what keeps me going.
