U.G. Digital Mag: Right, and what’s awesome is that is their true spirit. That’s the type of people they are. It’s their true personality. One of the hot things with The Voice is they always seem to pick people who are complementary to the contestants.

Eric Lyn: Right. It was just mind-blowing for me, working with world-class artists and performers who have transcended the music industry. They diversified what I was capable of doing. That was the moment. Both of them encouraged me to come out of my shell and be more free. I’m often thinking of what I should be doing to produce a healthy sound. They said it was already there, and encouraged me to be free in the moment.

U.G. Digital Mag: How do you feel the experience of being there helps you to move forward in your career?

Eric Lyn: I’d say that watching them, and being near them, hearing their stories and how they overcome, will help me to jump over hurdles. Being consistent will allow me to make it, not just because I’m talented, but I’m persistent in what God called me to do. The example of their life, or what I gained by being in their presence, will give me the drive to keep going.

U.G. Digital Mag: I admire your journey. You’re a true testament to what happens when the work is done. It’s

Eric Lyn: Yea, it’s something with all the research, but it’s worth it. But I met Michael Corté. I was singing background for artists here in L.A., most of them being background artists themselves for mainstream artists. I guess someone told him about me, and he emailed me to be a part of a project. I said sure, not really knowing how big it would be, and that it would be on Playbill.com, and all of these other platforms. He put me on GaGa4Rent. After that, he asked me to be in Dear Evan Hansen. Same thing with this going viral. I’m just very grateful. I think when we continue to put ourselves in situations where we follow our dreams and are obedient to what God tells you, you fall in place where you need to be.

U.G. Digital Mag: What’s on the horizon as you prepare for graduation?

Eric Lyn: Currently, I’m working on an EP. I’ll have a single out soon. I can’t say when, but it’ll be soon. It’s basically an introduction to me. I felt like I had an introduction on The Voice, but because they couldn’t hear my story, I want to show a sense of transparency. I want people to know me for me and know who they saw on tv. I’m auditioning for different things, like Hamilton.

U.G. Digital Mag: That’ll be awesome.

Eric Lyn: Yea, I’m really excited. That’s really it. Focusing on graduating, getting my music out, and auditioning for different things to advance my life.

amazing, and I’m thrilled that things went as they did.

Eric Lyn: Thank you so much. I’m grateful and humbled.

U.G. Digital Mag: Talk a little about your prior projects. You did quite a few things, like GaGa4Rent, Dear Evan Hansen, and so on.

Eric Lyn: I started singing background for local artists in Nashville. That’s where I went to school. I used to be a Jubilee singer, and through doing that, I had the opportunity to sing background for different artists; major artists. I did some things with Johnny Cash’s son, Wynona Judd, Michael MacDonald, Kidd Rock, and some things associated with the CMA’s and the Stellars.

U.G. Digital Mag: Such a blessing.

Eric Lyn: It was definitely a blessing. I learned a lot as a background vocalist when I got out here to L.A., because I’m in Grad School for the Master’s of Music Vocal Performance Program at California State University Northridge…

U.G. Digital Mag: Congrats for that..

Eric Lyn: Thank you so much, I’m graduating this semester.

U.G. Digital Mag: I’ve been working on my Master’s for a few years now off and on, so I know the struggle.
