We’re so happy to bring you an exclusive with Diamond P, who has taken the media industry by storm with her lovable persona. In 5 years, she has become a powerful force in radio, and is often seen and referred to as one of the best to do it. She’s outspoken, straight to the point, and says what’s in her heart, all things that have helped her to bond with her audience. In an industry where women struggle to get the respect they deserve, she commands that respect, and undoubtedly gets it. We’re thrilled that she’s here with us for this month's cover story, and invite you into her amazing world!

U.G. Digital Mag: This is a blessing and an honor to connect with you. I love your journey. I know you’ve worked so hard to be here. I appreciate you.

Diamond P.: You’re more than welcome. I appreciate you as well.

U.G. Digital Mag: You’re such a natural at what you do. It’s great that you’ve had the support you’ve had, but listening to you, it’s clearly in your DNA. Plus the fact that you’ve got family sprinkled through the industry. Is this something you always wanted to do?

Diamond P.: Yes and no. Actually, my heart was always into criminal justice. I always wanted to work as a deputy sheriff. I used to be a deputy sheriff. I worked for Fulton County Sheriff’s Department, and I have a Degree in Criminal Justice. That was my first love. From that point on, it was just that I was surrounded by people in the industry. I knew them before they were who they are now. That influenced me into where I am now.

U.G. Digital Mag: I think it’s dope. We’ll talk about how our lives mirror, but I admire your hustle. You make it look easy. Anyone knows it’s not easy, but you have a way of making it appear that way. Talk about your difficulties you’ve experienced?

Diamond P.: Just having people to believe, and take me seriously. Basically being overlooked, which meant for me, I needed to go harder. I used to always ask my God-brother, the ones who didn’t necessarily do enough per se to get where they are, how come they enjoy the life of luxury, the money, the cars. It never was about that, but it was about me believing in something I can do. I just want the opportunity to do it and take pride instead of it being given. Sometimes, even today, I feel like I’m not always given the opportunity.

U.G. Digital Mag: I understand that a million percent. As a journalist, my journey has been quite the same. You run into situations where people don’t want to help you. I’m like you in the sense that I want to work for it. I don’t want it handed down to me. I have family who are celebrities, but it’s not about that for me. I want to work for it, and be able to say I did it. What helped me was launching the magazine. It gave me so much additional experience, and allowed people to see what I could really do. I know you are extremely proud of what you’ve done, and I’m the same. It has to make you feel good with how far you’ve come. You’ve connected with so many people along the way.

Diamond P.: Yes, I’m very appreciative. As far as family is concerned, it’s a difference between family and relatives. I have relatives, but as far as family, I’m particular about who I place in that category.

U.G. Digital Mag: Definitely. I get it. Still looking at all you’re doing, being a mom of 4, being a cosmetologist, a degree in Criminal Justice, being on the air, how did you balance?
