hat exactly does the word phoenix mean?

"A person or thing of unsurpassed excellence or beauty; a paragon."

When we look at the many things Joy Villa has already been able to accomplish in her short-lived career, we definitely envision a Phoenix. She undoubtedly exhibits beauty. and Unsurpassed excellence? Also, without a doubt! Joy has been working long and hard at establishing herself in the world of entertainment. She not only has her hand in a multitude of things, but has literally mastered a long list of skills that range from modeling, painting, and acting to dancing, writing, and of course; music. In terms of her fashion sense, she caught the eye of the world earlier this year at the 2015 Grammy Awards. Wearing an exclusive Andre Soriano dress made of recyclable plastic fencing material, heads were turning, and rightfully so. Villa owned the night in the exclusively-designed gown. The uproar and media frenzy caused by her much-wanted exclusivity has provided a boost in everything else she has going on. Villa has been working for as long as she can remember at building her career as a singer and songwriter, and things are finbally reaching the point where the world is taking notice. She's got a new song and video oyut titled "vagabonds" that's truly making waves, and a lot more on the way.

We had the amazing opportunity to catch up with Joy Villa to talk, not only about her experience at the Grammys and how she was able to deal with the media storm around her dress, but also her music, and her upcoming appearance at L.A. Fasion Week.

Urban Grandstand Digital: Thank you so much for sitting down to talk to us today. We’ve been re-launched for about a year and a half now, and it’s been a slow, but steady climb back to where things were. It’s definitely a honor to be able to talk to you, and I know our readers would love to see what you have to offer. That was partly the reason why we added the story a few days ago about you. So thank you so much,

Joy Villa: You’re so welcome. I loved the story and I love the fact that you posted it. I actually copied it on my website and linked back. I appreciate every bit of press, especially people who reach out to me and want to know about me as as artist. It means a lot in the beginning stages, as people are trying to get to know who I am.

Urban Grandstand Digital: I think it’s amazing for a number of artists who come out. It takes a long time to really get established, but it seems like things are taking off rather quickly.

Joy Villa: Well that’s true James, and it’s an honor. This is something that I’ve been working for. It’s the same thing, where you see those household names who blew up overnight. You always have this 10 years or plus of hard work behind that overnight success. For me it’s been since I was 5 years old. That’s the first time I was on stage. I loved it, and I was a little diva. I told my mom to make sure my costume was right (laughing). I was an angel in the Christmas play. I knew the image had to be right (laughing). I’m honored to be able to show this special gift, and I’ve never doubted myself. I was blessed and fortunate enough to have parents who said to do what I want to do and be an artist. My mom and dad were my biggest influences.
