U.G. Digital Mag: Where does it sit in your mind to know someone like him is behind you?

CVSS: I try to stay humble. Everyone has a story, or a hard spot they come from. I focus on now and the future. I feel stoked that I can work with someone I listened to growing up. When everyone told me it was a waste of time, I did it anyway. I did this to get through the shit I was going through.

U.G. Digital Mag: The last time we spoke, you were pushing the single “Bang”. Talk about the success of that song and how it got you here?

CVSS: That was the initiation of getting here. We had the foundation, and the plan, then we were doing shows. I did the Cut Awards. “Selfish Ways” has a million streams, and I never expected it. I was so happy for that. That CD is really thuggish, and it’s a lot of hood stuff. But I wanted to hit radio, and make people happy and dance. I wanted to make different music. Karl and I, we met by me beatboxing and him hearing it. He asked if I was there for that, and I explained I was a rapper. Kardinal Offishall was supposed to be there to do the single “Amateur at Love”, which is one of the big hits right now. He wasn’t there because he was sick. Karl asked me to freestyle when Kardinal’s verse came on. He was happy with it, and from there we built bridges and out came “Bang”. Right now, we have 140,000 streams on Spotify alone, and it’s only been out a month and a half. The feedback is so super positive and motivating. It makes me want to keep going. The next one coming is “Work It” featuring Choclair. Y’all ain’t heard him like this yet. We bringing him to the new school (laughing)

U.G. Digital Mag: It’s dope. You two are magic together. Talk more about this project, as well as other things you have coming up?

CVSS: When we did “Work It”, we initiated the studio session with a different beat. So we’re doing a different song, but it was more aggressive Choclair, and old school type. When we make it, we knew when we would debut it, so we performed it when it was only four days old. It was such a new song, but it was popping. You can’t listen and not dance. The goal was to make the girls dance. The first song we started, it wouldn’t do that. We ended up making the next song, which did exactly what we wanted. It should be on every station. That’s what I’m doing right now. I have songs for the streets and the radio. I like to be versatile. I want to wear many hats.

U.G. Digital Mag: Again, it’s dope for sure. Talk about your goals as an artist. Where do you want to be in the next few years?

CVSS: I’m not out here to change anything or make everybody follow me. I don’t want to just be a role model, but I want to help people succeed in this business, and open doors. That’s my ultimate goal. The money, fame, and fortune is cool, but it’s a lot of talented people who don’t have the opportunity, or the money to invest. I want to open the doors, and put other people on. That’s my goal.

U.G. Digital Mag: I’m looking forward to “Work It”, and the new projects you have coming. Where can people keep up with you online?

CVSS: The website is www.cvssmusic.com,. I built the site. I do a lot of things on my own. I grew up broke, so I had to learn to do things.

U.G. Digital Mag: That’s hot. I understand that man. You got to have your hands in everything man, and know what’s going on with your career and brand.

CVSS: Definitely. You have to be business savvy. You have to understand every angle. If you want to come up, you have to understand the things behind the business. It will stress you out sometimes, and make you ask if it’s worth it, but you got to fight through it. When you get the success, it’ll feel better because you worked for it. I have a big team behind me too.

U.G. Digital Mag: Thank you so much for the opportunity. It’s hot to do the cover with you and Choclair.

CVSS: Thank you so much. it’s so surreal. Making it to this point makes me feel like I’m on my way. Thank you for having me.
