So many people in the industry shout independence, but Durell Peart reigns supreme when it comes down to it. This piece is one that is dear to me, primarily because I have personal knowledge of Peart’s work in this business. I had the pleasure and blessing of connecting with this brother a few years back, and from that connection, we were granted the opportunity to feature a handful of his artists. Fast forward to now, and here we are, now featuring Peart himself. It’s all so exciting because through this feature, you’ll get a true sense of what it takes not only to be an artist manager, but to be a true mogul. This brother is doing his thing, and he’s a prime example of what we as African Americans can do within our communities with just a little hard work. In this business of entertainment, he’s doing some amazing things to help so many people, and quite frankly, any manager can take a page from his book when it comes down to running their business and keeping things together. We’re proud to offer you Durell Peart with Reign of Independence!

U.G. Digital Mag: Thank you so much for the time man. I appreciate you so much….

Durell Peart: James, thank you for having me. it’s a pleasure to be here. It’s been a couple years since we’ve been connected. This is a great opportunity to come here and share my story. I love to help people. I do that through my company, Double N Management and Marketing Group. The Double N stands for N-couraging and N-spiring. I aim to do that trough my company. I wanted something to represent who I was. A lot of people call their companies by their own names, but I wanted mine to be more of what I was about and personify what I stand for. It’s about operating with integrity and being good to people, and not promising them a false reality. A lot of artists come in and don’t understand what it takes to make it. it’s not always about talent. There’s a lot you have to be willing to deal with to make it. I tell people the things they don’t want to hear, but have to hear to have a career in this business. I do that through a variety of services. I love to manage talent. That’s my heart, but you don’t make a lot of money managing artists. Most don’t have money or a big enough profile to generate a buzz. I had to figure out what I could do to make revenue for myself and not have to rely on a bunch of artists to manage, which is how I created the services I provide.
