Climate Change Impacts on Severe Convective Storms and their Hazards
Investigating how climate change affects hail , wind , and heavy rain , which can all cause damage in urban settings
Research Project
Severe convective storms bring hazards , including hail , heavy rain , and extreme winds , that cause damages in urban environments and are a driver of insured losses .
While climate change is expected to affect the frequency and severity of these storms , observed and projected changes are not the same everywhere and are subject to uncertainty . The goal of this research is to examine past and present changes to severe storms and project changes in the future , to understand storms and their physical processes , and to provide decisionmakers with the information required for mitigation and adaptation measures .
