What's in the future for the Goodman League? It is my goal to be an intricate part of rebuilding the neighborhood. I would love to see a new recreation center built with indoor and outdoor basketball venues. I’m excited for the next phase. We’re pushing forward everyday against all odds. There are no day’s off for us until we complete our mission. What else has been going on with the Goodman League? In addition to the annual tournament we host in Berry Farms, we are also competing in the Tournament of Champions which contains teams from New York, Chicago, Philly and of course D.C. Did you always have such an elaborate presentation? DJ’s etc? (He laughs) No, not at all. I originally funded the entire tournament out of my own pocket. I didn’t have a lot of resources so we used what we had. In the beginning, I used to be on a bullhorn announcing the players, commentating, etc. Until the day, Mr. Irvin Brady got me a speaker and a microphone. The first DJ to come along and join with us was Big John for about 6 years, then Stormin Norman for about 4 and our current DJ John has been here every since, and I’m thankful to all of them. Do you support the music of local artist to be played during the tournament? People submit songs specifically for the league, 32 and One Way (OY) have both made songs for the Goodman League, nobody else has submitted a theme song thus far; yes we are open to supporting local artist. 9
