The time of year has finally arrived when nature is beginning to awaken from its long slumber . The trees are budding , the snow is melting and the sap has started running again in millions of trees .

“ If you just stop and listen to the crackling ice and moving leaves for a little while , it ’ s just wonderful ,” said Harry Worm . Since 2009 , he and his family have spent the early part of spring tapping the maple trees on the property he and his wife , Judy , own on Red Pine Road in Brainerd . They then harvest the sap that flows , and turn it into maple syrup .
“ That first year we only tapped ten trees and made enough syrup for just ourselves and family ,” said Judy Worm . Over the past decade , however , the Worms have turned the maple syrup harvested from their property into liquid gold .
