AZERBAIJAN
Growing industry. Pharmaceutical industry was
among the fastest-growing industries in Azerbaijan
in 2017. Production of pharmaceuticals grew 2.5
times vs 2016.
Thalassemia. The Center of Thalassemia in Azerbaijan
has become a public legal entity, and for patients receiving
treatment at the center, the services will be free of charge.
At the moment, there are 3,105 patients with hereditary
blood diseases, including thalassemia patients, registered
in the country
Tuberculosis. The # of patients suffering from the advanced
stage of tuberculosis and its widespread form has decreased
twice since 2010, from 7.6 to 3.4%.

Decreased prices. According to the Belpharmprom
Holding, as a result of negotiations with foreign
suppliers, prices for 117 foreign medicines were
decreased by 10-79% in 2017.
EBRD will provide a mezzanine loan of EUR 5 mio to
Apteka Group Holding to support its development plans.

New State Program Edition. Russian Prime Minister
approved the new edition of the state program on the

Clinical Trials by BIOCAD. The company has successfully
f inished the main stage of the clinical trials of the Russian
biosimilar of adalimumab for the therapy of various
autoimmune and chronic inf lammatory diseases.
UZBEKISTAN
Production of lanolin substance will be established in
Boysun Pharm economic zone. The substance is widely
used as a binder in the production of medicinal candles
and ointments.
New production facility. Uzbekistan & Russia to create a JV
in production of infusion solutions, insulin, solid and liquid
medicines.
The trade turnover between Russia and Uzbekistan grew by
25.1 percent from January to October 2017 and amounted to
$2.8 billion.
