— — In Feb, some Ukrainian paramilitary activists
enhanced the blockade of railway connection
from the occupied territories of Donbass.
This caused the big issues with coal supply to
Ukrainian enterprises. The President of Ukraine
called the activists to stop the blockade, which
could negatively affect Ukrainian economy and
provoke escalation of war conflict in Donbass.
— — In 4Q16, Ukraine’s GDP increased 4.7% y-o-y,
according to State Statistics Service. Strong agro-
production (+27.8% y-o-y in 4Q16) on the back of
a good grain harvest was the main reason for the
impressive GDP result.
— — National Bank of Ukraine expects that in 2017,
the banking sector of Ukraine will see profit, not
taking into account PrivatBank. In 2016, the loss of
banking sector amounted UAH 159.4 bn, primarily
due to UAH 135.3 bn loss of PrivatBank.

— — Ukraine’s public debt increased 8.4% up to USD
71.0 bn in 2016 (from USD 65.5 bn at the end of
2015), according to a Finance Ministry report.
Thereby, the public debt reached 82.4% of GDP.
— — Ukrainian Prime Minister Volodymyr Groysman
has called on international partners to help
Ukraine create a recovery plan for Ukraine
similar to the “Marshall Plan” – the plan of
assistance for Western Europe following World
War II.
— — In Jan, industrial production in Ukraine
increased 5.6% PPG, after 4.5% PPG growth in
Dec 2016. Machinery grew 16.1% y-o-y, metals –
8.5% y-o-y, while chemicals declined 8.9% y-o-y.
— — In 2016, National Bank of Ukraine (NBU) grew
its assets by 10.8% y-o-y to UAH 940.6 bn. The
growth was mainly driven by increase in forex
reserves by USD 2.2 bn.
