Henry County Employees to Receive First Pay Raise in Five Years
In May, the Henry County Board of Commissioners adopted a FY2014 General Fund Budget of $ 122,078,834, which included $ 1.2 million for extra compensation for employees. At that time, it had not yet been determined whether the added compensation would come in the form of a bonus OR a pay raise of up to 2 percent. At the June 18 meeting, Commissioners approved a 1.8 percent across-theboard pay raise for all fulltime and“ permanent” part-time employees.
“ Our employees work very hard and do a terrific job for the County. They deserve a raise,” said Chairman Tommy Smith.“ After a number of years of going without so much as a cost of living adjustment, and even furlough days, we wanted to do what we could to let our employees know that they are valued and appreciated. We wish we could have done more.”
Certain employees will be excluded from receiving the pay raise, however. Elected officials and constitutional officers will not receive the raise, nor will temporary and per diem employees, those employees who receive supplements or those whose salaries are funded by grants or DATE funds.
The raise will take effect in July, the first month of the new fiscal year. If this step had not been taken, this would have been the sixth year the employees would have gone without any type of pay increase.
