Dear Vanessa,

"I sometimes find it hard to lay my tracks right. Can you help?

-Theresa; Cleveland, OH

Theresa, this is a great question. It’s not an uncommon question women have so, our focus will be on Proper Placement & Removal of hair extensions applied with glue in between the natural hair. In my career, I have seen many women with their hair weave placed incorrectly and it is partially due to trying to save money by doing it themselves or letting someone who is not properly trained assist them. I’m here to help.

If you’re going to place your weave between your natural hair, you have to first make sure you have cleaned your hair no more than 24 hours prior to getting it done. The natural oils in the scalp and hair can cause incomplete attachment to the hair. When hair is dry make sure you have a neat, visible part in your natural hair. Take your time. Remember, perfection takes time so there’s no need to rush. After you have a nice neat part, measure the length of the weft (track) to the length of the natural part. Apply your glue but make sure you do not apply to much glue because when pressed to the hair the glue will spread. Women make this mistake way too often. After that step is completed, make sure the weft (track) is laying on the natural hair right at the roots – where the hair and scalp meet. Again, take your time- you don’t want the weft lying on the scalp as this can cause irritation to the scalp and the hair to loosen faster due to natural scalp oils and sweating. It’s as simple as that. (continued)
