Mac Nitti's Corner

Happy New Year! I'm Mac Nitti and this is my little corner of the world. Welcome!

What I want to do on my is try to speak on relevant things as it pertains to the world of entertainment from an independent artist's point of view. But there may be times you check out my corner and see that I am venting and on a rant. Whatever I speak about I promise to make it worth your reading.

As you all know or should know, Up & Rising Magazine was created as a means for independent artists and aspiring models, designers and the like to have a way of being seen, heard, noticed, and recognized without going through all of the crap out there there only to find out they are still right where they started.

So with that, I am goinng to focus this segment on the YOU.

I would like to challenge all of you artists, models, DJs, Producers, etc., to make a difference. I am not on my soapbox talking about how you should be trying to teach kids how to live in love and peace; not this time I'm not, but believe it will be coming in one of these editions real soon. What I am talking about this month is standing out from the rest. Every time you turn around, someone is a rapper, someone is a model, someone DJs and produces. So when you submit your EPK and get passed up, its normally because your music sounds just like the last "rapper" that submitted his/her EPK. Your portfolio looks just like the last 300 "models" that just left the audition. Your beat sounds no different than DJ What's His Name that tried to host my party.

What you have to do is think outside the box. Ask yourself, "what's missing in the game that I can give proovide?" I get people asking me all the time what I did to make it to where I am. They ask what did I do that got me the type of connections that I have established. My answer is this:

Every night, before I go to bed, I ask myselfthese questions:

1. Did I inspire anyone today?

2. Did I blend in or was I able to be noticed as being different from everyone else in the room?

3. What did I accomplish today?

4. Did I do anything to move myself closer to my BHAG (Big Hairy Audatious Goal)?

5 Was everything I did today something that would make my grandmother proud?

If the answer to any of these questions is no, I get up, write down where I fell short, and resolve to make up for it tomorrow.

Now let me ask you....what are you going to do to make a difference and to ensure that you stay on track? Think about it, then go get 'em. Peace.
