Great Place to Visit
Newport News, VA
I don't hear many people speak about Newport News, VA. I think its not because many people know about this lil treasure in VA. I was fortunate enough to visit this lovely city twice and spend a week there each time. Let me tell you, I had the time of my life!
Newport News is located about 30 miles from Virginia Beech, about 20 miles from Norfolk, and about 12 miles from Hampton, so its really a nice place to lounge and be able to visit all of the tourist attractions without the hassle of competing with the other tourists in the area. In the city itself you'll find the Virginia Living Museum and The Mariners' Museum/USS Monitor Center; great places to take the family. If you and your significant other want to relax and be romantic, Virginia Beach is the place to be and you can get there in no time from Newport News.
As far as food is concerned, there's Al Fresco for you Italian food lovers, and of course if you like seafood, VA is the place to be, so check out Fin Seafood. Being Newport News is a military town, you will be able to see and appreciate your servicemen and women on a regular basis. The weather has neven been less than enjoyable on the two occasions I have visited, so there should be no concern, as I have been there in both winter and summer.
So, if you're looking for a city rich in foods, culture, entertainment, and away from the crowd of tourists, try Newport News VA...a Great Place to Visit!
