UNSW Global Student Engagement Online : Challenges , Surprises and Innovations Ms Adina Stan , Ms Mahnaz Armat
Student engagement lies at the core of a
successful learning and teaching experience .
The recent move to fully online teaching
precipitated by the global pandemic , has
provoked educators and students alike to
reimagine engagement and reinvent teaching
and learning . The shift to online learning has
pushed educators to transcend traditional
boundaries and move outside their comfort
zone towards exploring unique opportunities for
innovative , unconventional and even disruptive
teaching strategies . The shift to online has also
been transformative for students . It has driven
them to have more initiative and take more
responsibility for their learning .
This poster aims to illustrate some of
the challenges , surprises , and disruptive
innovations in the UNSW Global Management
course . It will highlight some of the student
and teacher concerns , issues , and limitations
associated with student engagement , and
reveal innovations implemented in response .
The poster will also showcase realisations and
lessons learnt for current and future practice .

Adina Stan is the Education Manager of the Design and Arts Department at UNSW Global Foundation Studies . Her academic interests lie in the areas of curriculum design , interdisciplinary education , role-play simulations and problem-based learning .
Mahnaz Armat is a Leading Arts ( Social Sciences ) Lecturer at UNSW Global Foundation Studies . She convenes the Management course . Her primary focus is developing learners ’ independent thinking and problem-solving skills ; improving their academic integrity and raising their cross-
