Challenges
In this job, it can be challenging to balance multiple projects, clients, contractors and other project stakeholders and often the work can all land at the same time. The construction industry historically has been male dominated, resulting in a number of challenges. The industry still has a long way to go, however is making efforts to address these issues through a range of forwardthinking initiatives and organisation like NAWIC, which I volunteer at as we all need to do our part to improve this.
Why This Role
Here are some of my favourite things about being a QS:
Firstly, I get the opportunity to be involved in a diverse range of interesting and innovative projects and tasks, which not only provides variety but is also very rewarding. The construction industry is very fulfilling and exciting to be a part of and it’ s hard to not become passionate about the projects you are involved in. I also get to see the tangible results around me, visit different construction sites and see the projects coming to life. Additionally, problem solving, maths and balancing numbers, all provide enjoyable day-today challenges. Finally, my job has allowed me to provide embodied carbon and sustainability advice, which I find is extremely rewarding to help make a difference in reducing the emissions caused by the construction industry.
