100 INNOVATIONS AND CAPABILITIES
SICONA- UNSW RESEARCH COLLABORATION
UNSW RESEARCH
Lithium-ion batteries are ubiquitous when it comes to powering portable devices, and their use will only grow as batterypowered electric vehicles and battery energy storage systems expand into the market. The desire to make better lithium-ion batteries in terms of safety, performance and lifetimes requires better materials. Sicona is working on a suite of materials and processes to produce novel materials for this aspect and is being supported by UNSW researchers.
> Scale up of production processes.
> Pilot plant construction and initiation.
> Investigations into new materials and processing routes.
> Commercial interactions.
At UNSW, key research infrastructure is being used to address research and development questions for the new materials under investigation.
Sicona has set up pilot plant facilities and is raising capital and scaling up its technology. It is looking for future improvements and technological advancements in collaboration with other partners like UNSW. • 27
