ENGLISH REQUIREMENTS Before entering a UNSW Diploma Program, you must have a minimum level of English language proficiency. Here is a list of the English qualifications that are accepted for entry to a UNSW Diploma Program. If you have English qualifications other than those listed below, you may still apply to enter these programs. The marginal rules below nominate exceptions to this rule. Note 2 The English language requirements may be satisfied by successful completion of full-time secondary or tertiary studies, or equivalent qualification, with a duration of at least one year, from an approved institution. Note 3  Diploma Programs will accept all IELTS results that expire within 1-month of the program start date (ie 25 months old). Note 4  If the result is higher than the overall program requirement and has been taken within the past 5 years, refer to UNSW Global for marginal assessment. *IELTS International English Language Testing System. Tests are conducted at a number of locations around the world, including at UNSW Global in Australia. **TOEFL Test of English as a Foreign Language. A TOEFL score is not acceptable without the Test of Written English (TWE) for paper-based and computer-based tests or Writing for Internet-based tests. UNSW Global is registered as a test site for the TOEFL iBT. For each Diploma Program, you will receive a mark out of 100. In the case of academic courses this mark will also be expressed as a grade (High Distinction, Distinction, Credit, Pass, Fail). To pass each course you have to achieve a minimum of 50%. Overall program performance in the discipline component is expressed as a Weighted Average Mark (WAM) of the courses, which is simply the average of all the marks in your courses. For the Communication and Academic Literacy English component you will receive a ‘Satisfactory’ or ‘Fail’ for the course.
