RESEARCH GROUP
Today , the role of cities is more pivotal than ever . It is estimated that by 2050 , more than two thirds of the global population will reside in urban centres . The UNSW Cities Institute , offers a novel approach to working with academic research to affect real change . Acknowledging the crucial role of cities for both country and people , the Institute curates research and projects that help understand and evaluate the evolving nature of cities , imagine and model diverse futures , and forge partnerships with decision-makers .
> Establishment of a new Institute with a leadership team grounded in practice , Senior Research Fellows and the initiation of a panuniversity First Nations urban lab .
> Delivery of 9 research papers over 3 months , across discipline and responding directly to questions posed by industry or government .
The Institute grasps how every element impacts and influences the spaces we inhabit . These considerations are not just abstract , they represent a spatial understanding of human conditions . Its research shapes policy and interventions to ensure that urban futures are productive , liveable , sustainable , just , and grounded in First Nations knowledge and practices .
To achieve this , the Institute unites world-class research across various disciplines at UNSW , employing a designthinking approach . It engages with industry , government , and community groups to influence policy and lead meaningful change in the urban environment .
The Institute bridges the gap between those with insights and those responsible for shaping and implementing city outcomes , ensuring that policy , change , and impact are practically applied to benefit the communities around us .
