This presentation describes case studies for cultivation of creativity and innovation in the STEM classroom , fully integrated with practice and honing of critical thinking skills . The approach lends itself well for the flipped classroom as well as online learning platforms . The case studies demonstrate the utility of the approach , preparing STEM graduates for the future through cultivation of creativity and innovation , integrated with critical thinking . It reviews prior experience and future perspectives in the field , outlining learning paradigms and student feedback to ‘ close the loop of learning ’, to maximise educational and learning experiences through critical thinking , learning from nature ’ s evolutionary paradigms , and applying design thinking approaches to the most intractable problems related to human health and well being . Insodoing the approach provides a path to address most challenging research and practical problems to improve human health and wellbeing throughout life .

S . patents ( four pending ) and ten EU patents that have been licensed to three companies . Knothe Tate is a Fellow of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers , Biomedical Engineering Society , the American Institute of Medical and Biomedical Engineering , the National Academy of Inventors , and Engineers Australia . Her R & D group has been supported through over $ 21M in international , national , regional , foundational and industry grants .
