Challenge
Australian cities are struggling to accommodate growth and address housing supply challenges in equitable and efficient ways. Advocating for a robust strategic planning system and more progressive urban policy is required in order to balance growth with community needs and help deliver resilient and inclusive cities.
Solution
The program analyses urban governance, planning processes, and community engagement to help inform policy and to hold those policies to account, with a particular focus on how communities and places are impacted. Researchers work with governments, industry, and civil society to unpack the complexities of urban densification, evaluate planning outcomes, and translate global best practice into Australian contexts.

By connecting evidence, communities, and decision-makers, the program identifies pathways for reinforcing the importance of strategic and inclusive planning systems in designing policies that address long-term urban challenges.
