Center emergency room for 15 years prior to joining the Kentucky 3 Air Methods Somerset team . During those years Davenport treated almost every type of medical emergency , but nothing could prepare her for what she first experienced as a Air Methods flight nurse .
“ I had never been in a helicopter prior to my first flight , so it was different ,” Davenport chuckled . “ I remember my instructor said , we ’ re just gonna keep you from walking into the tail boom . And I said , okay that ’ s fair enough .”
But once Davenport got use to her new airborne environment , her extensive medical training and experience took over .
“ It ’ s actually very similar to how I operated in the ER , but it ’ s just outside and in a very small space ,”
Air Methods paramedic Rudy Garrett displays their supply of blood . The local Air Methods team was one of the first to supply blood during their emergency flights .
