Celebrating our heroes working behind the scenes

There are a lot of people working behind the scenes in our lives who , every day , make what most of us do possible , without us giving them much thought .
We get out and drive on streets that are clean and passable because of the work of our local road crews .
We are able to put a garbage bag in a can and come home to find it gone — not by magic , but by the tireless efforts of our sanitation workers .
We count on our law enforcement agencies to be there when we need them , when a crime has been committed against us . We trust that if our home is aflame , the local fire department will be there to put it out . We know that EMS will be there as quick as they possibly can if we find ourselves in harm ’ s way .
These are not easy jobs . Often , they are thankless jobs . We may have petty complaints about the way the garbage man left our can , or the police may find themselves under scrutiny for an issue that ’ s bigger than any one officer trying to do his or her best .
But we see you , street department . We see you , sanitation workers . We see you , police officers , deputies , EMTs , volunteer firefighters , and everyone else working behind the scenes in our lives to keep us safe , healthy , and free .
We see the hours you put in . We see the stress you ’ re under . We see what you go through , what your family goes through , what kind of sacrifices you make for the good of all the rest of us .
If you are indeed our unsung heroes , then let us sing of your exploits here , in these pages . You deserve recognition . You deserve praise . And you deserve our thanks .
