possible danger . “ We usually respond to every car wreck with an injury , and we ’ re constantly assisting the ambulance service ,” Halcomb said . “ The ambulance services are always calling us out to do lift assist landing helicopters for medical emergencies for patients . We go out and set up landing zones in the middle of the night , maybe using a pasture field because we ’ re familiar with our districts . The sheriff ’ s department will page us out for help with traffic control at all hours when non-injury car wrecks occur and they have fluid on the roadway that needs to be cleaned up .”
Many times the local fire departments are the first responders on a scene , and many times they provide life-saving help until the more advanced medical personnel arrives on the scene .
