This level of exposure of a new trend may be something some designers want to capitalize upon by finding ways to incorporate it into their designs. We predict there will be much experimentation with laser cutting in the fall/winter collections, we would love to see some laser cut detailing in leather and suede. The theme of juxtaposition set by the Met Gala could also manifest itself with the presentation of oversized grunge vibes, which would suit the mood of the season, against delicate feminine trimmings and silhouettes.

2016 is also the year of Olympics which will be held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, a city that is steeped in the colorful carnival culture. Which label will subvert the usual dark palette of the season and embrace Brazil’s vibrant carnival hues? Will feathers and beading find its way into fall/winter collections? We at Unmatched believe that the allure/security of simplicity and pursuit of modernity will cause many labels not to tap into the fountain of Brazilian inspiration. The sport vibe to be caused by the Olympics may lead to the resurgence of the sport luxe trend. Will Alexander Wang lead the way?

Labels will also be designing for a stronger more empowered woman for their fall/winter 2016 collections, with Hillary Clinton potentially becoming the first female president and women as whole rising to new heights, fashion designers will work hard to keep up and dress this woman. This may manifest itself into strong, well tailored blazers a la Margaret Thatcher and Wallis Simpson and deep jewel toned hues..

We feel the love affair with all black everything will continue throughout this new season with designers playing with texture such as velvet, suede and lace to break up the mundane nature of black. The length of coats will remain maxi and oversized in fit. Layering will be key this fall/winter and labels will provide many options to create their perfectly layered outfits.

2016 is a year that will be filled with milestones and momentous occasions and we know that fashion will play a part in that and we’re excited to see how designers will rise to the occasion.
