Sample Recruitment Letter Disability Performance Protocol Dear (Name), The University of Pittsburgh and the student affairs staff would like to invite you to participate in a program entitled “Disability Performance Protocol”. With wheelchair intermural’ s available weekly other programs for students with disabilities rising here at the university, this program provides useful programs and infor- mation on increasing levels of fitness use in participation of a sport. What is wheelchair basketball? Wheelchair basketball is a form of basketball usually played by the physically impaired. Participants play on specially designed wheelchairs, built specifically for the sport. Wheelchair basketball retains most major rules and scoring of basketball, and maintains a 10-foot basketball hoop and standard basketball court. The exceptions are rules which have been modified with consideration for the wheelchair. For exam- ple, "traveling" in wheelchair basketball occurs when the athlete touches his wheels more than twice after receiving or dribbling the ball. The individual must pass, bounce or shoot the ball before he or she can touch their wheels again. What is performance protocol? A performance protocol is geared toward increasing an individual’s ability to perform at a high level consistently. This means increasing playing time and reducing pain and or injuries that can hinder perfor- mance and limit constant play. To achieve this, we must increase flexibility, cardiovascular fitness, strength and apply it to the sport (wheelchair basketball). The benefits will also correlate to a heathier individual away from the sport as well. What is the program?  Assessing mobility, transferability, flexibility, and strength of interested students  Explain muscle imbalances, postural and wheelchair competitive demands and injuries associated with each  Provided information on benefits of flexibly, strength, cardiovascular fitness relating to wheelchair bas- ketball performance  Conducting progressive workout programs that will increase performance and decrease injury risk  Applying the foundation of fitness, we create to sport specific movements related to performing wheel- chair basketball  Additional benefits include How do I get Involved?
