The Role Of An Authorising Engineer : The Authorising Engineer acts as an independent adviser to an organisation .
The AE should be appointed by the organisation to provide services in accordance with the organisation ' s relevant Safe Systems of Work , as well as HSE , Health Technical Memoranda ( HTM ) or Joint Service Publication ( JSP ) guidance .
The AE ' s role is to act as a technical assessor who makes recommendations for the appointment of Authorised Persons ( AP ' s ). Once AP ' s are appointed , the AE will continue to monitor the performance of the service and provide annual audits . With regards to audit in particular , the AE should remain independent of the operational structure of the organisation .
