“Are you suggesting we should be?” The princess countered. “Is that what you and the Countess believes is proper? War? I have seen the new weapons the Darkcons have. They are way above what the Utopian army has. They have grenades, guns, rifles and the Maker knows what else. We are no match for them. They killed my royal guards within minutes. We will be annihilated.”

“They have attacked us and we will do nothing?!” Bremmer longed to stand up and pace the room but royal etiquette decreed he sit there and wait for Asora to stand before he could.

“Laxur has stated that there had been an agreement with the past monarch to clear the shipping lanes in that sector of pirates and they have used that as an excuse to take Carlon. I have the prime minister looking into this.” Asora picked up her coffee and then set it down again, waiting for the explosion from the ambassador. She did not have long to wait.

“Just like Ceti-Delphi. I see.” Bremmer got up and walked to the window to stare at the view of the calm sea. “If it is like Ceti-Delphi will the court allow us to get our people out? Wehave grenades, guns and rifles more advanced than the Darkcons. You know that. We as you know do have an army. We could get our people back”

“Our people? You mean Humans?” Asora calmly watched Bremmer. “Will you sit please?”

He jerked away from the window and bowed low to Asora. “I disrespected you, like the court does. Please accept my apologies.”

She raised her hand to raise him up. As he stood she said, “of course. You are distraught, I am distraught. I have not heard of the treaty that Laxur and Veartis talked about and I am not sure that it is true to be honest.”

“You are young and were not born when twenty-four years ago the Darkcon’s invaded Ceti-Delphi, your brother’s home world but it was the same. Countess Marien sent in a force to help liberate people off the world, including your brother. Again it is happening to Duke Jeia and the Countess has great affection for him. I believe she would be willing to send in another force.” He smiled. “We will even get the Elves off. They will want them removed. The Elves will never become Dark and pray to the Architect.”

Asora laughed ruefully, “that would help but I do not see the court allowing the Humans to arm themselves for battle. The Great War is still fresh in their minds.”

“That was five hundred years ago and we ended up under the Utopian Kingdom.” He sighed heavily.

“There are those that were alive that still are part of the court and we Humans won at the very end of that war at great cost. So great that we could no longer function and had to be taken into the kingdom.” Asora reminded him.

“We had to be a part of the kingdom because the kingdom could no longer function either. The Angels made this treaty we all must live under.” Bremmer remarked. “There will come a time when it will no longer be necessary.”

“It is talk like that which makes the other Utopians nervous and cause them to refuse to allow you to go in militarily.” Asora advised.

“You could demand that we go in there and get as many people out as possible,” Bremmer said knowing it was unlikely.

“You know I can only suggest such things. I will not be queen for another nineteen and a half years and until then my power is limited. We can request that it be done.” Asora stood up and gave her hand to him. “You will convey this to Countess Marien and I will see you at court later this morning.”
