In his legendary ballad, Satisfy My Soul, Bob Marley sang the words ‘[for] every little action, there’s a reaction’
and that statement holds true for what we have been trying to do for the National Day of Caring.
NDOC is about sparking personal action to create a change in our country. It’s about making an impact and
experiencing how the act of giving transforms those who give and those who receive, through simple acts of
kindness. We have gone as far as refurbishing entire schools to simply reading stories to children. We have had
projects funded entirely by companies and projects funded entirely through the contributions from participating
groups or employees. Regardless of the project size and scope, these actions have been catalysts for profound,
positive reactions in several communities across the country.
It is an emotional experience to witness the face of children who come to school on the Monday morning after
the National Day of Caring, to see an entirely refurbished school or classroom. In that moment they know that
they are not forgotten.
We now have pockets of passionate volunteers across the country who look forward to getting involved each
year. Their commitment has helped us gain momentum as we spread this movement to each and every citizen,
neighborhood and community to create a brighter future for our country.
I want to thank all the companies, employees, school groups and volunteers who are collectively making this
journey with United Way of Trinidad and Tobago, and share our vision. It is my hope to see this movement
increase in size and strength and overwhelm Trinidad and Tobago with the positive energy it so urgently needs.

22 May 2016 was National Day of Caring - NDOC as we at United Way Trinidad & Tobago fondly refer to
it. As Chair the enormous hard work of the NDOC team, the loaned executives and our, I am delighted to
acknowledge, nearly 160 Corporate Exemplars and Partners and 3500 Enthusiastic Employee Volunteers,
executed more than 603 projects in communities across the country. Some huge in scale in ambition, other
modest, but all tinged with generosity, compassion and solidarity. They were amazing. I was near tears of
pride as I saw our Young and Not so Young Live United Volunteers give of their time, talent and treasure and
culminate in spectacular a Fun Day at Republic Bank Grounds.
Well done Live United Team TT... you are our country’s real riches !! Roll on NDOC 2017.
