Lewisham People's Day joined by Musical Youth and 16,000 revellers

SOUTH east London's biggest community festival Lewisham People's Day was back at the weekend with massive crowds of 16,000 having fun in the baking heat.

Musical Youth's headline performance of their hit Pass the Dutchie was an obvious highlight, but the Mountsfield Park event had a wealth of other entertainment to enjoy.

The Big Top was home to Mat Ricardo’s Variety Show, while elsewhere, there was a performance by Lewisham NHS Choir - stars of the BBC’s Sing While You Work.

A craft market, table-top football tournament, Zumba class, BMX stunt biking along with a host of community and food stalls ensured the event went off with a bang.

Mayor of Lewisham Sir Steve Bullock said: "This year’s People’s Day was once again a huge success. It was great to see so many families having a good time throughout the day – encouraged I am sure by the hugely talented range of musicians and performers who really got the crowd going.

"Lewisham residents really know how to enjoy themselves. I would also like to thank all the community and voluntary organisations and the staff of Lewisham council and our partners who helped make the day such a relaxed and friendly summer festival.”
