Wood-Mizer
EG400: the
dedicated
edger with
high
performance
features
Wood-Mizer estimates that use of an edger after
the sawmill increases overall productivity by 2030%.
Production process
For cutting quality edged timber with high
productivity, Wood-Mizer recommends the following
layout. Logs are first converted into a two-sided cant,
underslab board and slabs on the sawmill. A multirip
saw then cuts the cant into edged boards and slabs
which are transferred to the sorting area, while the
waney edge boards and slabs from the sawmill are
moved to an edger where they are edged to width
and transported to the sorting area.
In this layout, the capacity of the edger and
multirip is usually enough to serve two or more band
sawmills.
EG300 edger/multirip
In developing the EG300, Wood-Mizer engineers
aimed to combine the functions of an edger and a
multirip in a single machine.
For use as an edger, the machine is fitted with two
circular sawblades so that both edges of the boards
are sawn in one pass. One of the sawblades is fixed
and the other is movable - using the electronic
