Quarterrio Baker graduated from Lucy C . Laney High School in Augusta , Georgia in May 2018 and enlisted in the Georgia Army National Guard . After a year of serving in his unit for hurricane response , he decided he wanted to earn a college degree . Quarterrio learned about the State Service Scholarship at Georgia Military College and reached out to his State Representative for District 124 , the Honorable Henry Wayne Howard , and asked if he would write him a letter of recommendation . Representative Howard agreed and in August 2019 , Quarterrio moved into Baugh Barracks at Georgia Military College ’ s Milledgeville Campus as a member of the 141st Corps of Cadets . Throughout his first year , Cadet Baker excelled in academics , performing arts , and especially in leadership . He rose to the highest rank and position in the Corps of Cadets , leading the 142nd Corps of Cadets as the Regimental Commander . This May 2021 , Quarterrio was commissioned a Second Lieutenant in the U . S . Army as a Military Police Officer . 2LT Baker then graduated with an Associate Degree in History and the keynote speaker for his Commencement Ceremony was Representative Henry Wayne Howard , the one that recommended Quarterrio receive a full ride to GMC with the State Service Scholarship – the reunion between 2LT Baker and Representative Howard was a special reunion . Now after commissioning and graduating from GMC , 2LT Baker is now off to Georgia Southern University to complete his Bachelor Degree in History and to serve his country on active duty and ultimately earn a law degree and enter public service .
