Jeanie’s Flowers has a long
history

eanie Jarrett has been in the flower business for more than 40 years.
“Close to 80 years ago, my husband’s family owned the first flower
shop in Milledgeville,” Jarrett said. “My mother, remembered going to
the flower shop when she was young.”
Jarrett said the family-owned flow-
er shop was located on Wilkinson
Street adjacent to the Otis Thomas
Plaza.
“They grew the flowers from bulbs,”
Jarrett said. “They did work for all the
funeral homes in Milledgeville.”
The Jarretts decided to carry on
the family tradition of working with
flowers. One of Jarrett’s in-laws,
D.P. Steele, worked at Jeanie’s when
it first opened and he taught her all
she needed to know about the flower
business. Now that Jeanie’s has been
around for more than 40 years, Jar-
rett said it is the oldest flower shop in
the city.
“The colleges keep us going,” Jar-
rett said. “Those love relationships
— we can wire arrangements to any-
where. Plus, parents miss their children when they are away at school, so
they frequently send flowers to their children in college for birthdays or
just because Mom and Dad miss you.”
In addition to visiting the store, Jeanie’s
website is open for shopping 24 hours a
day. Customers can conveniently place an
order, schedule a delivery and pay for an
online order without having to wait in line.
“If we get an order at 8:30, we’ll have
it out before 3,” Jarrett said. “We’re also
a one-stop-shop for prom. We offer tux-
edo rentals and speciality floral arrange-
ments.”
Jarrett said her store takes tuxedo mea-
surements for the nervous gentlemen as
well as provides both corsages, bouton-
nieres and bouquets for proms and wed-
dings.
“We enjoy assisting customers for birth-
days, anniversaries and holidays. We
have a variety of selections for every price
range,” Jarrett said.

are from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday
through Friday and 8:30 a.m. to noon
