looms, Quality Pawn is a bonafide repository of
some of Milledgeville’s most intriguing items.
“Quality Pawn opened in January 1984,” says
the business’s owner, Patricia Waddell Purvis.
“We buy, sell, and trade jewelry, guns, musical
instruments, electronics, tools, dolls, computers,
coins, and much more.”
While Quality Pawn trades plenty of items one
might expect to find in a pawn shop, after 35 years,
the shop has seen nearly every type of item under
the sun. Over the years, Purvis and her staff have
seen everything from false teeth and a prosthetic
arm (pawned and re-pawned several times by the
same customer) to the stuffed rear end of a deer,
and even still serve some of the same customers
they had in 1984. Recently, the shop took out a
page on buya.com where customers can digitally
browse the shop’s inventory, and the store’s staff
buys and sells new items every day. After 35 years
in the Pawn business, it’s this unpredictability that
keeps Purvis coming in to work.
“Every day is different — that’s why I have en-
joyed it so much,” says Purvis.
A
s the chill of winter gives way to the warm days of spring, Milledgeville
residents will be cleaning out their attics to clear some space, or simply
to make some extra cash.
As it happens, there’s a business in town that can help with all three of
these endeavors and may even pay local residents back for some of their un-
wanted items.
