Blackbird Coffee remains the area’s favorite coffee roaster B lackbird Coffee opened in December 2004 with the simple mission of offering the freshest premium coffees in Milledgeville. Fifteen years later, their in-house small batch coffee roaster is still delivering great coffees from the world’s best coffee estates while skilled baristas offer in- sight and knowledge without pretention. All it takes is one visit to Black- bird Coffee to understand how it was named “One of the Greatest Things About Milledgeville” by Visit Milledgeville or one of Explore Georgia’s “Fa- vorite Coffee Roasters.” The dedication they bring to their coffee spills over into everything they do. Their real fruit smoothies are a delicious refreshing alternative and just as carefully made as a latte or traditional macchiato. Their sandwiches are made to order and can be enjoyed with many drink selections, including wine, American craft beer or a milkshake. Blackbird Coffee offers eight flavors of hand-dipped ice cream, great for milkshakes, cones, cups and, the house favorite, an affagato (vanilla ice cream with espresso). A trip to Blackbird Coffee isn’t complete unless you’ve had one of their quarter pound cookies. These sought-after treats are baked fresh and available in chocolate chip, oatmeal raisin, and peanut butter cup. In February 2018, Blackbird Coffee opened its expansion and official home to Birdhouse Theatre. The intimate 75-seat venue hosts open-mic nights, poetry readings, literary panels, stand-up comedy, staged plays and live music. Additionally, the venue is home to Milledgeville’s award-winning improvi- sational comedy troupe, The Armed Farces, host to Milledgeville Film Festival and Milledgeville’s Inter- national Ten-Minute Playwriting contest, Edge Fest. Birdhouse Theatre is the perfect setting for meet- ings, parties and celebrations.
